PART 307: REGULATIONS UNDER THE COMPREHENSIVE SMOKELESS TOBACCO HEALTH EDUCATION ACT OF 1986
: Scope
307.2 - Required warnings.The Comprehensive Smokeless Tobacco Health Education Act of 1986 is the law that requires the enactment of these regulations. Section 7 of this law provides that no statement, other than the three warning statements required by the Act, shall be required by any Federal, State, or local statute or regulation to be included on the package or in the advertisement (unless the advertisement is an outdoor billboard) of a smokeless tobacco product. The warning statements required by the Act are as follows:
WARNING: THIS PRODUCT MAY CAUSE MOUTH CANCER
WARNING: THIS PRODUCT MAY CAUSE GUM DISEASE AND TOOTH LOSS
WARNING: THIS PRODUCT IS NOT A SAFE ALTERNATIVE TO CIGARETTES
